The Operations mission of the Coast Guard Auxiliary encompasses on-the-water action as shown in the photos seen above and below as well as in the upper left of the Home Page. Auxiliary crew members and coxwains are trained to tow distressed recreational vessels - and extract their occupants from the water as the situation demands! At the right below is a photo of Auxiliarists being trained in the proper use of a fire extinguisher aboard a vessel. Auxiliarists are also trained to dewater a vessel when necessary. The photo showing the Coast Guard helicopter on the Home Page exemplifies Auxiliarists carrying out their basic Operations mission in concert with regular Coast Guard units. Also included in Operations activities are Verifying Private Aids to Navigation and operating Base and Mobile Radio Facilities.
